Helping the homeless, get out of the cold.  The first ‘winter overflow shelters’ opened their doors yesterday in Winston-Salem. The emergency shelters will be available through March 31st, giving needy individuals access to a warm place to stay and a warm meal.  Hosted by Anthony’s Plot Community, several downtown churches, the United Way and the city of Winston-Salem.  Hundreds of volunteers are needed to assist with the overflow shelters.  Interested?  Call 899-0375   Email wsnc.os@gmail.com      Pastor Russ May with Anthony’s Plot community joined us this morning between 8 – 9am breaking down stereotypes and fears about helping the homeless in our community.

Several new North Carolina laws on the books as of Dec. 1. Forsyth Tech will offer FREE short term job-training for ‘skilled’ jobs in the Triad. The new job training grant provides funding to any North Carolina resident who is unemployed, underemployed or meets income guidelines with a special focus on unemployed military veterans.  The new grant pays for registration fees, books and certification costs for approved classes. The training program will be held over the next three months.  Some of the ‘unfilled’ jobs include: Electronic health-records specialists, electrical linemen, facility-maintenance techs and welders. Great weather for the annual Moravian Star lighting ceremony at  Wake Forest Baptist happening this afternoon around 5:30pm.  The Moravian Star lighting will take place on the top level of the Eden Terrace parking deck off Hawthorne Road.  Enjoy Moravian bands and choirs.  Hot apple cider and Moravian cookies will be served. FREE and open to the public.  FYI: The 31-foot Moravian star has been seen atop the Medical Center’s North Tower since 1992.  The one-of-a-kind star has 27 points that range in length from 7 to 11 feet.  Each of the points is illuminated by a 100-watt bulb…    716-3027
