Reading, writing, arithmetic – and PE? With childhood obesity on the rise, the Institute of Medicine finding that only half of the nation’s youngsters are getting at least an hour of vigorous or moderate-intensity physical activity every day. Some experts suggesting that schools provide opportunities for at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day for students and that PE become a core subject. The recommendations: -All elementary school students should spend an average of 30 minutes each day in PE class. One of Apple’s first computers – a functioning 1976 model – has been sold through a German auction house for a record $668,000 dollars. An unnamed buyer bought the so-called Apple 1, which the tech company’s founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built in a family garage. BTW: The Apple 1, which was sold for $666 dollars in 1976, consisted of only the circuit board. Some people call ‘hydrilla’, the kudzu of the water. This hard-to-kill, fast growing weed is spreading into the southeastern portions of North Carolina. Hydrilla often spreads when it gets caught on boat propellers or buckets that aren’t clean. The boats or buckets are put into another lake, and the plant takes hold. The weed can grow an inch a day, quickly entangling boat propellers and crowding out other plants. Tens of thousands of French demonstrators took to the streets of Paris over the weekend to protest the nation’s new law that redefines marriage. France is the 12th country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. Experts say France’s debate on marriage has exposed deep conservatism in the heartland and discontent with the socialist government.
