Say it isn’t so, ya’ll??? Chef and TV cooking star Paula Deen announcing this week that she has Type 2 diabetes. Deen, the Southern belle of butter and heavy cream who will turn 65 on Thursday, said she kept her diagnosis private (for three years??) as she and her family figured out what to do, presumably about her health and a career built solidly on Southern cooking. Some of Paula Deen’s current lucrative endorsements include Smithfield meats and Philadelphia Cream Cheese. BTW: It was a surprise to officials with the Food Network …they found out only last week. http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/lifestyle/2012/01/18/paula-deen-cooks-up-controversy-with-diabetes-revelation/#ixzz1jomJx4g5
Big decision by the US Supreme Court yesterday, they will NOT hear the Forsyth County “Sectarian Prayer” case this session. The Alliance Defense Fund was petitioning the High Court to hear the case after a lower court ruling that sectarian prayers or invocations directed toward a specific deity such as Jesus Christ before governmental meetings are unconstitutional. The current 4th circuit court ruling doesn’t completely prohibit prayer at government meetings, but at least one Board voting to “silence the issue” for the time being. Last night, the Winston-Salem City Council deciding that they will no longer open their meetings with prayer. They will instead start with a moment of silent. Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund have been representing the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. FYI: The ACLU sued the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners over the prayer issue back in 2007 on behalf of two individuals in Forsyth County. www.adfmedia.org/News/PRDetail/4759

THE WHITE HOUSE WAS PLACED ON LOCK DOWN LAST NIGHT AFTER A SMOKING OBJECT WAS FOUND NEAR THE NORTH PORTICO. The smoking object appeared on White House property as Occupy Congress protesters staged a large rally in front of the White House. President Obama was having dinner a few blocks away, celebrating the first lady’s 48th birthday with friends. No correlation between the first lady’s birthday cake and the smoke bomb…-v
