Broadcasting icon Casey Kasem passed away on Sunday. He was 82.
In addition to his radio and TV programs (including “American Top 40”) Casey Kasem also provided the voice for a number of cartoon characters, including Shaggy on “Scooby-Doo”. Remember those “long-distance dedications”??
Two years of college for FREE?? Starbucks is now offering both full- and part-time employees a generous benefit that covers two full years of college classes through a partnership with Arizona State University’s online studies program. Employees can choose any of more than 40 undergraduate degrees (not just business classes). The benefit is equal to about $30,000 per employee.
-Employees will not be required to stay with Starbucks after earning their degree.
-About 70% of Starbucks’ employees do not have undergraduate degrees.

Lightning struck a church in Brunswick County yesterday, right in the middle of their service, zapping the person playing piano.
The incident happened around noon yesterday at the Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Lightning struck the roof of the church, then travelled through the electrical wiring in the building. The individual was treated on scene and is expected to be OK.
The church suffered minor electrical damage but no structural damage.

More unrest in Iraq – U.S. State Department has started a partially evacuation of the American embassy in Baghdad. The Pentagon is sending about a hundred troops to protect embassy staff that stay behind.
Arson? Quick thinking customers put out a small fire at the at the Walmart on Kestermill Road off Hanes Mall Blvd in Winston-Salem last night before 7pm.
The store was evacuated for about two hours Sunday. No injuries reported.
Daddy? Police say a Connecticut woman became concerned when she heard ‘someone’ calling “Daddy” repeatedly near a school. But when she began looking for a child, she instead found a large green parrot up in a tree. The local fire department used a long pole to remove the bird from the tree at Holland Hill School on Thursday.
