NC Food Banks given more funds…Serious heart blockage for Bush 43…Total retirement not a reality for majority of Americans (Tuesday News)

$2 million dollars in grants will be distributed to Food Banks across the state.  Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC will be getting about $400,000 to help those in need.  The money will come from food and pharmaceutical consumer settlements reached by the Attorney General’s office.

Major blockage:  Former President George W. Bush’s heart situation was more serious than originally thought.  Two sources close to the 43rd president now confirm that ‘W’ had a 95% blockage of an artery. The former president had a stent put in back in August after the blockage was discovered.  Experts say that the rate at which a vessel becomes blocked is more important than the overall blockage…

New AP poll confirming that total retirement may not be a reality?   82% of American workers 50 years or older will ‘likely work for pay’ during the retirement years.  Close to 50% or workers will retire later (on average three years later than expected).

The NC State Fair in Raleigh starts this Thursday – CONCERTS of interest include:  Building 429 and Francesca Battistelli (Friday, OCT 18)…Mercy Me (Friday, OCT 25)…Scotty McCreery (OCT 21-22  Mon + Tue).   Fair admission is NOT included in ticket price. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.  The State Fair runs from October 17–27 in Raleigh.

Prayer Concern:  UNC women’s head basketball coach (Sylvia Hatchell) is taking some time off, to focus on treatment for leukemia.  CNN

Four years after he was outnumbered and outgunned in a brutal battle in Afghanistan, retired U.S. Army Captain William Swenson will be awarded the Medal of Honor –  the military’s highest award during a presidential ceremony later today.  Swenson risked his life to recover the bodies of his fellow soldiers during a seven hour battle, where five Americans lost their lives.

The ‘Spending’ appeal of Halloween?  The National Retail Federation saying that Halloween is a $6.5 billion dollar holiday, second in spending only to Christmas.  The average family in the US will spend $75 dollars during Halloween (on everything from costumes, decorations and candy).
