Much of New England is bracing for a powerful winter storm.  A huge winter storm will likely bring whiteout conditions to parts of the region along with heavy snow and sub-zero wind chills.  The mid-west already has half a foot of snow on the ground.  New York may get 8 inches of new snow today.  Boston may get up to 11 inches of snow by Friday night.

Gas prices down in 20-13, set to go lower in 2014?? According to AAA, gas prices were the lowest in three years during 2013. BTW: The national average price for a gallon of regular gas last year was $3.49.

Off the boat –  All 52 passengers stranded on that research ship stuck in the ice near the South Pole have been transferred to an Australian icebreaker by helicopter.  But this is just the first leg of the trip home. It may be mid-month before they make it to Australia. The ship’s crew will stay on board as planned.

 Former first lady Barbara Bush is still in a Houston, Texas hospital for treatment of a “respiratory-related issue.”  Barbara Bush, 88, was admitted Monday.  CNN

Actor James Avery best known for his role as Uncle Phil on the 1990s show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” died Tuesday after complications from heart surgery.  He was 68.  CNN
