The Middle Class is Shrinking (NEWS) Dec 15, 2011

Partly sunny skies and breezy…High 65 degrees. Cooler temps for the weekend.

The middle class is shrinking: According to new census figures, 1 in 2 Americans live in poverty. Many middle-class Americans are dropping below the low-income threshold – roughly $45,000 dollars for a family of four – because of pay cuts, a forced reduction of work hours or a spouse losing a job. FYI: Housing and child-care costs are consuming up to half of a family’s income. http://www.news-record.com/content/2011/12/15/article/census_shows_1_in_2_people_are_poor_or_low_income

Winston-Salem property owners want to bring back a ‘lawn parking ban’ proposal that was tabled a few years ago. The proposal is mainly over rental properties with multiple tenants and where they park their vehicles. A committee is looking into possible ordinances and plans to discuss options with the entire city council in March. FYI: Greensboro and High Point passed lawn parking bans back in 2009.  www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-lawn-parking-ban-proposal-reintroduced-in-winstonsalem-20111214,0,1003524.story

A new study finding that one in five scientists who claim to be atheists actually attend a church service one or more times a year. The motivators for attending: a social or personal connection such as the desire to see friends or a Christian spouse. (Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion). The director of the American Humanist Association telling the Christian Post that the study’s findings didn’t surprise him saying that “Like many who do (or don’t) believe in a god, these folks likely attend church for the community experience, or the cultural connection to the religion.”
