Warmer temps for the weekend…Free tax help…Greensboro firefighters hospitalized…Oscar nomination for Christian artist taken away? (Friday News)

Forecast – Sunny and warmer for the weekend.  Use caution Saturday morning on secondary roads, parking lots and sidewalks that have re-frozen overnight.

*Students with Davie County schools will be going to school for a Make-Up Day this Saturday til noon.

Need help with your taxes? How about FREE help – Starting Saturday, individuals and families making less than $58,000 dollars a year can file their taxes online at www.ForsythFreeTax.org.  Individuals or families making up to $52,000 can also visit various sites around Winston-Salem for tax assistance. Tax preparation will go through April 15.  E-filing is still the fastest way to get your refund quicker.

Four Greensboro firefighters were injured when a roof collapsed during a large fire at an auto shop on South Elm Street in Greensboro yesterday afternoon.  One firefighter is still in the hospital.  BTW: Charlotte and Salisbury fire departments sent crews to help fight the fire. http://myfox8.com/

We were very excited when we heard the news that Christian author and speaker Joni Eareckson Tada had been nominated for an Oscar – in the “best original song” category –  for her performance of ‘Alone Yet Not Alone’ (in the Christian movie by the same name). Update: The board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has rescinded the Oscar nomination for “Alone Yet Not Alone” sighting that Bruce Broughton (composer of Joni’s song) …“had emailed [some of the other 239] members of the academy to make them aware of his submission during the nominations voting period.” BTW: The latest news stokes the debate that Oscar lobbying and campaigning are arguably common practices…leaving Joni Eareckson Tada caught in the middle -with NO nomination – yet, still a great performance of the song. http://www.christianitytoday.com/gleanings/2014/january/oscar-best-song-alone-yet-not-alone-joni-eareckson-tada.html
