Health: New recommendations from the American Heart Association suggesting that children (ages 2 to 18), should consume no more than about six teaspoons of ‘added sugars’ in their daily diets.  Normal allowance should be 20 to 30 grams depending on the child’s age.  Bottom line:  “Heavy sugar consumption has been associated with weight gain, insulin resistance, abnormal cholesterol and fatty liver disease in children…”    http://goo.gl/0tqGND

Sad news: Gene Wilder, the star such classics as ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘”The Producers” passed away on Monday due to complications from Alzheimers. Wilder was 83.   NPR http://goo.gl/gk5xuX

UPDATE: Krishawn Noble, whose body was recovered from Kernersville Lake on Friday, died from drowning according to an early autopsy report on Monday.  Noble was set to start his first year teaching at East Forsyth Middle School.  Nobel, a 2012 graduate from Winston-Salem Prep, just graduated from WSSU back in May. 

 

UPDATED REMINDER:  ALL students who are ‘entering public school’ for the FIRST time  (no matter what age)  are required to have a ‘health assessment form’ completed by their physician and returned to their school. You now have less than 30 days to get that ‘health assessment form’ to your child’s school.
