We’re moving! This whole move thing started on a whim right after Christmas. Judy and I had just flopped down after a week away from our 4 room palace and we were beat.
Judy groaned, ”I don’t feel like moving a muscle.” I bounced back like a light just popped on, “You don’t have to. We’re moving! We’re moving to another state!”
“That’s right, we’re moving to a state where you can sleep all you want, shop all you want, eat all you want, no bills, no taxes, nobody telling you what to do, extra pickles… millions have gone before us to pave the way. It will be exciting!
“We’re moving to the state of DENIAL!”
Judy laughed and we actually spent the day pretending we had made the move.
Judy said, “I don’t feel like doing house work today.” I quickly reminded her, “You don’t have to, we are now in the state of DENIAL.”
“So what’s for lunch?” My standard answer for the day, “Anything you want, you’re in the state of DENIAL!”
“Let’s go shopping”. My response,“Yeah, and we can spend all we want and not worry about paying off the credit card…we’re in the state of DENIAL.”
This little game went on all day and kept getting funnier and funnier. It actually did lift our spirits and we got a lot of good laughs out of it.
The sad thing, there are many who really do live in the state of DENIAL and it is no laughing matter. Though it eases the pain of life for awhile and postpones the hurt, sooner or later “the bill” comes due and you get moved, against your will, to the state of REALITY.
The first of a new year is a great time for a reality check. Looking into the face of God and looking at your reflection in His word is the greatest reality check there is. I think I am going to take my own advice. See you soon on the radio or in the middle of traffic!

My better half Judy gave me the greatest ‘human’ gift in 1987 when she said “I do”. Don’t try to reconcile the math, but I have 3 teen age grandchildren now. Hannah, the oldest gave me the name “Papa John” and was disappointed when she found out that all those pizza places were not mine.
