Food Prep with Virginia Lopez
Hurricane Preparedness 2025
Planning how you’ll eat and prepare food during any power outage
Virginia Lopez
Family and Consumer Sciences Agent with the NC Cooperative Extension in Forsyth County
Storms of any kind can disrupt our daily lives.
A common challenge is managing food when the power goes out, so planning ahead can make a big difference. Having shelf ready food, a preparedness kit, a way to cook food with electricity and a 7 to 14 day plan for your family will help secure your family’s access to nutritious food during uncertain times.
If you need additional support (beyond 3 to 7 days), consider looking into local food programs such as SNAP. Their website also offers more easy, no-power recipes to help you prepare.
